Meet our new director

πŸŽΆπŸŽ‰ We are thrilled to announce Siobhan Dillon as the new Director of the Whare Flat Folk Festival. With a passion for folk music and community engagement, Siobhan brings considerable experience in event management and a desire to ensure the festival continues to grow, evolve, and connect people through the power of music and dance. She tells us she is excited to step into this leadership role, having been an active participant in the festival since before she was born, missing only one year, much to her chagrin, as she was forced into hospital while pregnant. However, to her delight, some lovely folk saved the day and brought the festival to her in the form of a session in the hospital foyer on the day the festival ended!

Organisationally, Siobhan has been part of the festival in some way or another for most of the last 20 years. In addition, for the last eight years, Siobhan has been Director of the very successful Dunedin Swing Festival. In the local folk world, she has been involved in the Dunedin Folk Club committee from time to time, even stamping newsletters for posting as a 2 year old, doing her bit for the community! She also brings with her a wide range of skills including those in design and computer technology.

Musically, Siobhan has been a member of the all-female Irish ballads string group Teud, the fun a cappella foursome Rhonda and the Ravers, and The Two Cappuccinos with Lee O'Brien. These days she continues to perform in their family band, Moroney. She has also been involved in dance from an early age and continues to teach dance.

We’re sure you’ll join us in welcoming Siobhan as director of this, our 50th anniversary festival.
