Dunedin's legendary outdoors folk music festival. Featuring world class musicians from New Zealand and around the world, Whare Flat Folk Festival is four days of music, sun, camping, workshops and jams in the idyllic native bush surrounds of Waiora Scout Camp. December 30th to 2nd January Just 15 minutes' drive from Dunedin, Whare Flat is the best way to see in the New Year in Otago.
We encourage you to bring your musical instruments and jams are welcome, providing your neighbour’s are keen! If it’s late in the day, we provide areas for you to jam that won’t disrupt other campers or kids.
The HUB
We have a new tent this year, known at The HUB. Set up just outside the main marquee, this will be our information centre, and will provide any updates on schedules, the weather and everything in between, as well as a place to buy band merchandise, and ask one of our helpful, friendly stewards for advice!
Merchandise
Everyone loves a memento, so as well as the usual band merch offerings, this year we’ve invited a local screen printer to come to the festival on the 2nd January to create your very own unique WFFF 19/20 Ts-shirt. We encourage you to bring a plain secondhand t-shirt to get printed with the Whare Flat 2019/2020 logo – Planet saving souvenirs! Prices for this to come.
Workshops
Our workshops are led by the very musicians and entertainers you’ll see at the festival - more details to come in the schedule!
Children
We are a very child friendly festival, and we have lots of events and entertainment planned for children- more of this to come in the schedule!
Camping
Camping available from the morning of the 30th December through to the 3rd January. Our campsites have toilet facilities, and there are showers available. Tents and campers are welcome and you are only moments away from the music marquee. You can park your car right next to your tent.
Dogs
Dogs are welcome at the festival- we have a dog friendly campsite, so just make sure the stewards at the gate are aware, and they’ll point you to the right area.
Dogs must be on leads and under control at all times. There are all kinds of wildlife around the camp, and we want to minimize any disruption to it.
Please don’t leave your dogs locked in a vehicle without air conditioning- make sure they are secure and happy, and that someone is with them or checking on them regularly.
Food and drink
There is an onsite café and bar, but you’re welcome to cook your own food, providing it’s on a stove. We’ll be in amoungst our beautiful native bush, and there are often fire bans in the area, so keep your cooking safe!
You are also welcome to bring your own plates and containers to the café.
Rubbish and recycling – Looking after the place we love!
We want to make Whare Flat as sustainable as possible, so please help us in our quest to reduce the waste!
We aim to minimize as much single use plastic as possible, so bring along those refillable water bottles and your own food containers!
There is a rubbish and recycling area provided just above the main venue - we do encourage you to keep your part of the camp tidy as well as minimise any rubbish.
There will be bins set up at the refuse station for
· Plastic and Cans
· Glass
· Cardboard/paper
· General waste

If you need anything at all, come to the HUB, set up just outside the main marquee.
