Festival Lost and Found
Posted on Tuesday, January 03, 2012
As always there are a number of items of clothing, eye- and sun-glasses and other paraphernalia that have been collected up from the site after your departure. Please email info@nefc.org.nz if you have lost (or found) something and we'll try to arrange a reconciliation of you and your goods. Items not claimed will be disposed of to a local charity shop in February.
Another One Done and Dusted.
Posted on Tuesday, January 03, 2012
The 2011-2012 festival was blessed with the best weather possible. Every day was sunny and hot, and while one night was quite cool all the rest were balmy. This year we experimented with a new, simpler stage layout and that seemed to work very well.
If you have pictures of the festival you wish to submit to our gallery, please email them to info@nefc.org.nz - but limit each picture to 2Mb or less. Send us details of who to credit as well and we'll publish them here if they are suitable.

Please note: pre-registrations are now closed, but you can still attend for the full festival or single days; just come on out and register at the gate. Prices are outlined below.
Registration for the Whare Flat Festival is $130 per adult and $45 per school-age child. This includes camping*. Day visitors are most welcome too, $40, school-age kids, $10 on a sliding scale throughout the day. Online pre-booking is no longer available but you can pay at the gate. EFTPOS is available on the site for cash withdrawals and purchases. Information about the different events can be found on the programme page.

Dave Hart
Posted on Tuesday, December 20, 2011
Dave is a member of Bantam of the Opera and No Sax or Violins, both guest acts at this year's festival, has been suddenly admitted to hospital. This from his daughter Polly:
"Hi everyone, Dad had to go into hospital for emergency stomach surgery (ruptured ulcer) on Tuesday evening. The surgery went well. He was transferred from ICU to ward 16 on Thursday. He is a little better each day, however at present is still very weak and tired. He's requested that only family visit him for the time being, until he feels more up to enjoying visitors."
We wish Dave all the best for a swift recovery. We realise at this stage, it's unlikely he'll make it to Whare Flat. The rest of the Bantams are good to go and will fill their bill at the festival. We're waiting to hear more about NSoV. We'll keep you posted.

"Hi there,
My family and I are planning to come to the festival this year. It looks awesome!!
I was wondering if there is anyone who might be interested in a free day ticket (and possibly some cash) in return for sitting/sleeping in our tent with our two kids over the new year, say from 9pm till when we get back to the tent? We are new to Dunedin and don't know where to start looking for such a 'guardian angel'.
Please email me at tonirogers115@gmail.com
many thanks,
Toni" | |
2011/12 Guest List announced
Posted on Thursday, October 27, 2011
Yet another great festival line-up - a few old favourites and a slew of new talent!
From Australia comes the Karen Lynne Bluegrass Circle - with a couple of familiar faces, George Jackson (Fidllesticks, Double Trouble and Twisted Oak) and Bruce Packard (New Dogs, Old Tricks and Coolgrass). So why not add Twisted Oak while we're at it; these young guys knocked our socks off a couple of years ago. The Chaps have a new albulm out that they want to perform to you and double-Tui winner, country legend Donna Dean is back with us. Billy Ebeling comes fro the U.S.A. to join his well known sibling Terry for a rebirth of the fabulous Ebeling Brothers. Bantam of the Opera and No Sax or Violins are old faces that hail from Christchurch along with newer Cantabrians La Petite Manouche and their gypsy influenced jazz styles. Also from Australia comes the renowned Kelly Family with their world-capturing Celtic interpretations and our own Maura Turner is the youth guest with her trio Eighteen Blades of Grass. Dave Barnes wends his way from Wellington to bring us the Singing Bar Sessions that have been so popular over the last few years and Bob Soper and Elizabeth Nicholson bring their Celtic multiinstrumentalism all the way from the US of A!
Register online

Well, you've been asking for it for years and we've finally come up with a solution. You can register online for the whole festival or for day visits by going here. As the festival grows year by year it pays to book early, we are fast arriving at the point where the site will be at capacity and we will have to turn people away. And with the projected fine weather - it might just be this year!
New venue on site
Posted on Thursday, October 13, 2011
One of the great things about having the Waiora Scout Camp as our festival site is that from year to year there are constant improvements and upgrades. Over the last few years there has been an extra toilet block commissioned, road lighting installed, a barbeque area built and several hazards mitigated (the latest being rails on the side of the bridge over the river). This year, there is a new building for our use (which the Scouts call a "breakout room") which is perfect for sessions and workshops or just sitting on the deck and taking in the sun. You'll see it at the turnoff to the cabins and family camping area.
