Artist Applications

Apply to Perform at the Whare Flat Folk Festival

Applications for the festival are welcome at any time, however those received after July get diminished consideration for that year's festival or go into the pool of next year's applications (if you wish).

Here's what we typically expect of a festival guest:
  • One 50 minute daytime concert,
  • One or more workshop/masterclass in your field of expertise or interest.
  • One 20 minute evening variety concert appearance.
These are negotiable, of course, depending on what else you might have to offer like:
  • Children's entertainment or workshop,
  • Compere/MC duties
  • Hosting a singing or playing session
  • Playing or calling in the barndance.
There are some less tangible things we like to encourage too:
  • Stay on-site for the duration of the festival and be available to festival goers,
  • Collaboration with other musicians and guests (if appropriate),
  • Contribute to the social nature of the festival.
What you can expect in return is some combination of money, food, accommodation and consideration of partner/family accompanying you. It is usual that we accommodate and feed out-of-town guest artists (unless they are making alternative arrangements). The fees we can pay vary from year to year (depending on funding, grants etc.) and are not comparable with the international festival scene.

To apply, please send an email to info@nefc.org.nz with the subject line "Whare Flat Artist Application" and give the following information:
  1. Artist/Act name and contact person.
  2. Description of act (up to 500 words as you would have it appear in the programme)
  3. Links to pictures, youtube videos, mp3's and/or websites.
  4. What you have to offer in addition to your performance (workshops, childrens activities, dance etc.)
  5. Your fee.
We are interested in having a wide range of artists and music types and try to present a balanced programme. We can make no guarantee that any given application will be accepted but the more information you can provide and contributions you can make will improve your application consideration.
